Tragic Accident on I-69 Claims Two Lives: Alcohol Suspected as a Factor

A tragic accident on Interstate 69 near Anderson, Indiana, took the lives of two people early on Sunday morning. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in this devastating incident. Let’s get into the details. 

The incident unfolded just after 2 a.m. on a Sunday, near the 234-mile marker in Daleville. Indiana State Police responded to reports of a wrong-way driver on I-69, a situation that’s always a recipe for disaster. 

Upon their arrival, officers were met with a chaotic scene. Multiple vehicles were damaged and blocking all southbound lanes of I-69. It was a horrifying head-on collision between a Kia, which was traveling in the wrong direction, and a Chevrolet heading southbound. The consequences were devastating. 

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet, Victoria Elaine Cox, 32, and Evan Daniel Cox, 26, tragically lost their lives at the scene. It’s difficult to fathom the pain and grief their loved ones must be going through right now. 

The wrong-way driver was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to an Indianapolis area hospital. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this accident, highlighting the dangers of impaired driving. 

The aftermath of this tragic event had a significant impact on traffic. The southbound lanes of I-69 had to be closed for approximately four and a half hours to facilitate the investigation and clean up, underscoring the importance of thorough accident scene analysis.
